Handlooms: Borders (Decorative stripes with brilliant design patterns)

Borders are traditional colored stripes woven on tiny looms by local weavers. It is a long lace having an appropriate width depending upon the pattern. Almost all patterns of shawls can be applied on the borders.

Initially borders were used for caps only, but owing to its brilliant colors, borders are now being used in the decoration of other handlooms and handicraft products, for instance jackets, ladies suits, shawls, caps, etc.

Raw Material
Earlier pure wool colored in various colors was used for the border but as pure wool's colors fade fast, acrylic yarn was started being used.
