Weaving carpet as a craft is one of the most ancient arts. It
has been a tradition to use carpets in hills of Himalayas since
ages.
In the pre- independence era less of carpets were manufactured
locally. But after independence, with the introduction of various
training programmes, large number of people adopted carpet weaving.
Also a large number of Tibetans settlers in Kullu Valley added
to the growth of carpet industry.
Tibetan style of carpets are most popular because in these carpets
every single design like a dragon, lotus, golden wheel or snow
lion has a unique tradition behind it, depicting power, prosperity,
purity, happiness, protection and good fortune.
