In
2000-2001 over 3,80,000 meters fabric was woven into shawls
and other garments such as Lois, Mufflers, Tweeds, Blankets
and the hand-woven fabric was also converted into the classic
"Nehru" Jacket and other designs, beside Shirts, Ponchus and
other stitched (made-up) garments.
A total of 50,000 kg of virgin Australian merino worsted wool
yarn was consumed in this effort and sales of about US$ 9 million
was achieved. The main body of Kullu shawl is woven in worsted
Australian merino wool yarn of 48 to 56s count having between
21 to 23 micron fines and is over 98% of the shawl. The remaining
2% can either be again wool or synthetic yarn, which is woven
in as intricate geometrical designs on the sides of the shawl.
Beside
shawl in merino wool Bhuttico also hand weaves shawls in some
specialty fibers like Pashmina and Angora both the handspun
and machine spun in various blends of finer microns of merino
wool. The consistency in the quality of the "Bhuttico" shawls
has resulted in the ever-increasing demands of its popular range.
For export purpose the Bhuttico is manufacturing Shawls, Stoles,
Mufflers, Ponchas etc.with the finer light weight soft Marino
wool of 16 to 18 microns.
