Trekking - Padum

This trek starts from Manali, passes through magnificent snow peaks to Darcha, up to the 5090 Mt. Shinkun La and then winds through Zanskar valley to Padum.

Season: Mid June to Mid October
Duration: 10 Days

  • DAY 1: MANALI - DARCHA (3300 Mt.)
    The treck starts from Manali, crosses Rohtang Pass to enter the valley of glaciers, Lahaul. Camp at Darcha.
     
  • DAY 2: DARCHA - CAMP 1 (3580 Mt.)
    It takes about 4 to 5 hours to reach our camp. You pass a spectacular gorge and cross a ford.
     
  • DAY 3: CAMP 1 - RAMJAK (3750 Mt.)
    It takes about 6-7 hours to reach the camp at Ramjak.
     
  • DAY 4: RAMJAK - SHINKUN LA (5090 Mt.)
    - GUMBURANJON (4450 Mt.)

    An 8 to 9 hours trek is on your program. You cross several rivulets to reach your camp at Gumburanjon on a small plateau.
     
  • DAY 5: GUMBURANJON - TABLE (4000 Mt.)
    It takes you about 6 hours to reach the treck camp at Table. On the way you pass through Kargiyak.
     
  • DAY 6: TABLE - PURNE (3650 Mt.)
    About 6 hours walk from Table leading through beautiful villages and narrow gorges to Purne.
     
  • DAY 7: PURNE - PHUTKAL - PURNE
    Visit of Phutkal Monastery (about 2 hours walk). It's one of Zanskar's most spectacular sites.
     
  • DAY 8: PURNE - ICHAR
    About 5-6 hours trek through villages Cha, Kaydang and Surle. Camp at the fortified village Ichar.
     
  • DAY 9: ICHAR - MUNE
    Crossing a beautiful flower covered plain, you can camp opposite the monastery at Mune. Today's trek is about 5 hours.
     
  • DAY 10: MUNE - PADUM (3600 Mt.)
    It takes about 6 hours to reach Padum. A visit to Barden Gompa, a Kagyupa monastery famous for its prayer wheel (180 cm high) is recommended. Several beautiful villages are situated on the other side of the river. From Padum the leads down to Kargil.
